Is the tree lighting an evening event? Judging by the 2024 edition, it is a midday one. The 34th annual ceremony ran on Wednesday, November 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the tree lit around noon by the Sugar Plum Fairy, and the listing invited the public. Houston First, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, DACAMERA and Mercury Chamber Orchestra presented it, and the programming included a gingerbread house, holiday crafts, live music and photos with Santa. Dates and times for later years come from the organizers, so confirm them before you set a pickup time. The ceremony belongs to the Wortham and its presenters, and we have no connection to it. Where is the entrance for a ride to 501 Texas Avenue? Wortham Theater Center stands at 501 Texas Avenue, in the Theater District of Downtown Houston. Houston Grand Opera's write-up of the 2023 ceremony places the music and festivities in the Grand Foyer, while the Downtown Houston listing for 2024 places Sugar Plum Plaza and its photo spots just outside, at Fish Plaza by the Texas Avenue entrance. In other words, the day can involve both the building's doors and the area just outside them. Street rules and any event closures decide where vehicles can stop nearby. Put the entrance you have in mind in your booking notes, and let your chauffeur know if signage or closures on the day point somewhere else. Our Downtown Houston page describes the neighborhood around it. Will a performance crowd be there too? It can happen. The Wortham is home to Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet. If you hold tickets to a show on the same date, mention both times when you write to us, so each trip can be thought through on its own. Check the Wortham's own calendar for what is scheduled that week. Can the outing grow into lunch or an afternoon Downtown? With the 2024 ceremony finishing at about 1 p.m., the afternoon is open. Dining, bars and shops around the Theater District are within reach, and an as-directed hourly booking is how a block of time with a chauffeur is arranged for that kind of day. Our event transportation page lists the occasions we cover. What if part of the group is coming from a hotel or the airport? Choose one address for your own party's pickup, such as the lobby of a Downtown hotel like The Lancaster Hotel, which we also serve. Colleagues or relatives starting from somewhere else book their own ride, and an airport arrival and a later airport return are each a separate reservation. A guest landing in time for a noon ceremony can put the flight number in the booking notes, since we follow the flight's progress and can greet guests at baggage claim. Families who plan to linger over the crafts and live music, rather than leave right after the tree is lit, should say so when they reserve on our booking page, so the ride back is planned around that.
